Kindness: /ˈkīn(d)nəs/ n. the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
Kindness is one of the things that I really wish was naturally embedded into the makeup of people. Unfortunately it's not, but kindness is something that is taught and learned by those who teach us about the values of life. When you first start out in school one of the 1st rules you learn is "be kind." We learn to treat others the way that we want to be treated, but somewhere along the way the issues of life and the world taint us from the kindness that many of us hold.
We also learn to have tough skin because the world is a cruel place and as the years go by we see the world get even more cruel. In a world that could use so much love and kindness it's so hard to find now. We have social media which allows people to be a different level of bold and spew out hate and unwanted opinions. We have leaders who encourage division, strife, and hate. We have so many broken souls among us who lack love and so the chain of unkindness continues to get longer and longer. What I do love though about the free will of human nature is that we have a choice in how we treat others and how we react to those who may not always treat us with the decency that we all deserve in some shape or form.
We have to learn the value of not being so quick to speak or respond. That's something I'm personally working on myself. We don't have to use our words to tear others down. We don't have to always to be the first one to comment or react to what we see or experience. Some things are better left unsaid. If it isn't uplifting, encouraging, and good to and for the soul it can be thrown away. The book of Proverbs talk a lot about how much power our tongue holds. It also equates corrupt speech with the results of death. The word often refers to spiritual death but spiritual death can also lead to physical death as well. We've seen situations before where corrupt speech has caused someone their life.
I'm challenging you today to spread kindness even if you're the only one in your circle. Be a trendsetter and show love to someone today you never know what someone could be battling. You never know what your kindness can do for someone else's soul. Be a light in a world of darkness. The world needs more kindness, love and unity and it can all start with you.
My prayer today is that we find the beauty in others and their flaws. I pray that we choose to think before we speak. I pray that we find the strength to spread kindness and love in a world filled with so much hate. I pray that we will all be a light in the darkness and that we will be the positive trendsetter in a crowd of negative semblance.
With love,
-Yours Truly, Eb
